At-Risk Panther

Episode 74 - UStream Jam

With Istanbul out of the picture at MFF and Shiva coming down with a bad case of plague, Savrin and Fuzz gather with others in secret to determine the answer to a most pressing question. Gentlemen, how do we remove panther's beard?

This week, we decided to do a live-ish show via UStream. Both Savrin and Fuzz had laptops and were in the broadcast's chat room, so they took live questions from the audience and respond to some feedback. We're all still getting used to this format; please forgive us if it seems a little disjointed! We plan to do more of these in the future because it lets us interact with you guys more as the show is going. When we have a streaming show planned, we announce it on our Furaffinity page and Twitter, so keep an eye out!

Also, as you may have noticed last week, we have a sponsor! If you use the code KNOT at www.adameve.com, you get 50% off of one item, free shipping, a collection of three free adult DVDs, and a special gift! We get a portion of each sale, so when you buy from them with our code, you're helping us out, too.

Episode 23 - Bottoms Up

First of all, I’m sorry that I haven’t been updating this site very regularly lately. My job is taking a lot of my time and energy lately (six day weeks for the last several), leaving little for podcasting. That said, I did manage to add something new, which I should have done a long time ago. We now offer an RSS feed for the MP3 version on our podcast! Now people whose media players don’t handle AAC can subscribe and get the MP3 version from a feedreader rather than having to wait for me to update the site. The URL for the new feed is this:

feed://www.foxstuffers.com/MP3/KnotCastMP3.xml

I still recommend the AAC version, because it’s slightly higher audio quality in smaller files, but enough people get the MP3 version that I thought this would be worth doing.

That said, here’s the episode from last Thursday!

This week on KnotCast, the crew goes Bottoms Up for the topic and hear back from our listeners on what they really like in their submissive partners.

We also read emails from listeners about long distance relationships, faking it in bed, dealing with tard fiances, and answer an email about giving girls a test drive in bed while being a bit... gay.

All this and more on episode 23 of KnotCast.

Episode 20 - Wheel of Fetishes II, Part 1

This week on KnotCast, the crew is back from the most unexpected one week hiatus with some new gear and the same good advice you've come to enjoy.

This weeks topic is fetishes and all they entail. The crew covers quite a few fetishes that we haven't talked about before, safe clean sex, more input on the military fur topic, and get a thank you for an answer from a previous episode.

We're back and ready for more. All this and more on episode 20 of KnotCast!

This week's song is Shout, a pre-release single from Sub-Level 03's new album, Undercover. You can find more of their music and preorder Undercover at www.sublevel3.us.

Audio Equipment Update

Savrin brought up an interesting point earlier today. He was browsing the FA forum and ran across a post where someone said that people are essentially greedy and that without a paper trail for the donations to show how they were used, he didn’t feel they could be trusted. I agree with the sentiment, so we’ve decided to publish the receipts for what we have purchased with your donations.

First, I ordered two three-packs of microphones, six insert cables, and seven pairs of Neutrik XLR cable terminators for $120.78 from Musician’s Friend. That shipment should arrive Monday.

Next, an audio processor and 50m of XLR wire for $187.39 from BSW. This one should arrive on Tuesday. Just in time to spend the night wiring mic cables.

Finally, I called my Sweetwater rep on Friday and ordered the same mixer we had before, an Allen & Heath Zed-14 for $399.97. It should be here by Wednesday.

Sorry I had to trim out names and so forth. Those are all copied out of the E-mails I received with only minor formatting changes.

$708.14 total for what will end up being a better setup than we originally had in a few ways. Now all that we have left to purchase is the equipment case and the computers. For the moment, we are using a Mac Mini which Jen loaned to us. I upgraded it to 2 GB of RAM, and it’s nice and zippy now, so we’ll be using it this week. That should be long enough to get some idea of just how much the insurance will cover and at least order new machines. We may have to take next Thursday (August 14th) off, depending on whether she needs the Mini back or not, but that should be it.

Also, a few people have expressed that they don’t think a $5 donation is helpful. $5 is a pair of cable terminators. It’s an insert cable. It’s almost five meters of very high quality microphone wire. Honestly, every little bit helps. While a lot of the things we’ve had to buy are fairly big-ticket, there are lots of really small costs that add up very quickly. Every dollar helps, and we are sincerely thankful to everyone who has donated.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to drop me a line. audio@foxstuffers.com

Break-in news!

Breaking news! KnotCast's studio has been burglarized. Most of our audio hardware was stolen. Mics, mixer, cables ... oh, and our computers, too.

We're asking for donations to help us rebuild. If you can help out, we've set up a Paypal account; knotcast@foxstuffers.com. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.

We have also set up a donate button on our main page.

KnotCast, now with stereophonic sound!

I’m thrilled to announce the little side project I’ve been working on. I call it KnotCast 2.0. For the past few episodes, we’ve been recording with a new process that gives us stereo sound. Each host is to one side or another in the “stage”, as it were. The new process is documented over on our Technical page, in case you’d like to read about it. I can also answer questions directly.

The feed address for the stereo AAC is:

www.foxstuffers.com/Stereo_AAC/KnotCast2AAC.xml

We mostly recommend this for listening with headphones or surround sound. It doesn’t sound as good in cars or on smaller speaker systems. Hopefully, I can get the guys to record a little stereo demo clip so that people can test how it sounds on their equipment and in their environment.

Unfortunately, there is not a stereo MP3 feed yet. I’ve been creating the stereo MP3 files, but they average about 110 MB for the last four episodes. That will chew through bandwidth quota like nobody’s business, and we don’t want to drive up Furnation’s hosting bill. We will definitely be including them on the DVD we’re planning to sell, and if enough people ask for download access to them, we may be able to work something out.

We hope you enjoy the new feed!

Edit: Just got our first question about it, and it’s a good one.

Q: Is this the file that is downloaded through the podcast directory in iTunes?
A: No, iTunes’ podcast directory still has the monophonic AAC version. To subscribe to the new feed, go to the Advanced menu and pick “Subscribe to Podcast...”. Enter the URL above and hit OK. Now, you are subscribed to both feeds. If you like the stereo feed, please unsubscribe from the mono feed to save us some bandwidth each month.

New equipment

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been slowly buying new equipment for the podcast. Among the things I purchased are five new dynamic vocal mics. Admittedly, they’re el-cheapo microphones, but considering that this isn’t exactly being mastered at 24-bit, 96 kHz, I don’t think mic quality would make that big a difference. It’s enough that each host now has his own mic.

From here out, you should hopefully notice much less background noise. Earlier, we miced two of the hosts with lapel mics and the other two with a single vocal condensor microphone. Since they can’t both be properly positioned for that single mic comfortably, I had to turn up the gain and step it back a little. Now that we can get a mic a few inches away from everyone, there is no need for that, so the mics won’t pick up as much room noise.

I have some other changes that I’m working on, but I’m not sure how well they will work. If I’m able to get good results, I’ll post more about them. For now, it’ll have to be enough to know that I’m not just sitting around and that I’m actively trying to improve things.

Bad Fuzz! No Podcast!

This week on knotcast, Fuzz finally crossed the line and is tied up and gagged in the corner.. but dont worry. We're taking good care of him with a crop of doorknobs being kept close by for easy access.

Damien and Savrin bring you DRAMALULZ from the inner workings of their families reactions to their sexuality and furryness. We have a few emails and a few listener tales of family shinanigans that are sure to make you facepalm.

The Eighth Sequel!

Finished the editing and uploaded!

Episode 9 - The Eighth Sequel (AAC; 23.9 MB)

Episode 9 update

Well, they recorded another take of episode 9. This time, Damien had to be elsewhere, so Fuzz, Savrin and Zapnut recorded it without him. There are a few audio glitches, but I'm about 1:10 h:mm into it and there's nothing insurmountable so far. It'll just take me a while to finish up the editing and I wanted to warn people.

I swear, one day I'll teach these guys how to properly mic themselves. ;-) Either that or pick up a few SM58s.

Episode 9 problems

My new shift at work prevents me from being at our "studio" when the others are able to record. This week, they had some recording glitches that I think we would have been able to sort out had I been there, but as it is there is no audio from Fuzz's mic and Savrin's track is essentially unsalvageable. Tons of clipping. The primary mic (the one that Zapnut and Damien were on) picks up enough audio that we may be able to release the recording, but the audio quality will be rather low.

If people want, I can try to get the episode to sound passable and release it. The other option is to record it again at a future date. What do you, our listeners, want us to do?

E-mail me at audio@foxstuffers.com.

Edit for clarity: The question is about releasing this episode as it stands. If we do re-record we will save this audio and put it on our forthcoming DVD with the other audio extras as a 'Lost Episode'. If enough people ask, we may include Episode 0 as well.

KnotCast Evades

Here's the eighth episode. This one was recorded two Thursdays ago since we knew we wouldn't be able to record this last week and we didn't want to skip a release if we could avoid it. Unfortunately, that means that if you sent in a question in the last two weeks, it won't be answered in this. We're trying to catch up and reply to some of the E-mails directly, and we hope to be able to record the next episode this Thursday.

With that said, enjoy the episode!

Episode 8 - KnotCast Evades (AAC; 17.1 MB)

A Storm of Doorknobs

Seventh episode is up. It was storming again. This time, there were reports of grapefruit-sized hail not far from us. Fortunately, it seems to have missed us entirely.

Episode 7 - A Storm of Doorknobs (AAC; 14.9 MB)

Real life intervenes

My schedule at work is changing and I will no longer be available in the evenings. Since I currently handle setting up the recording and editing it for release, that means the release schedule will probably slip. Hopefully we'll be able to get the editing done on episode 7 tonight, but I can't promise anything yet.

Better Luck Next Time, God!

This week's recording very nearly didn't happen because of some tornados and an extended power outage at our "studio" (read: apartment). Power came back on roughly two or three hours before we needed to start recording. The roads were covered in broken tree limbs, though. Anyway, linkage!

Episode 5 links

Realized today that I hadn't posted the episode 5 links to the news page.

The final version of the episode is 1:52:43 long, including the break. Let us know what you think! KnotCast@FoxStuffers.com

Episode 5

Well, the fifth episode has been recorded, and wow is it long. All told, there's nearly two hours of audio. I need to trim out the lead-ins and lead-outs on both sections and mix in the music. Hopefully it'll be up before too long.

Episode 4 - Lifestylers!

Fourth episode is up early because I managed to finish the editing way early.

Episode 4 - Lifestylers (direct; AAC; 17.6 MB)

The link to the podcast feed is over on the right. In related news, we're in the iTunes podcast directory! If you are using iTunes, we would really appreciate it if you would subscribe through the iTunes directory link, as it lets us get a rough number of how many listeners we have (among other things).

Also, we're trying out a comment system on these entries. Let us know what you think!

Episode 3 - The late one

Sorry about missing last week. We had some weather problems, scheduling problems, and all sorts of other things that conspired to keep us from recording. We were able to get it this week, though, and here are the links:

KnotCast Podcast URL (feed to iTunes or another feed reader)
Episode 3 - Foxes Don't Work That Way (direct; AAC; 17.4 MB)

Questions? Comments? Suggestions? We'd love to hear 'em all! E-mail us at KnotCast@FoxStuffers.com.

Audio glitches

Well, the episode sounded fine on my machine when I was editing it. I'm not sure why it seems so much quieter after I exported it. Working on a higher-volume master now.

Edit: Higher volume versions are up. You can download them using the same links. Hopefully they'll fix the volume issue.

In iTunes, you should delete the original Episode 2, unsubscribe from the podcast, then resubscribe. That will convince it to download the episode "again".

Emailageddon

Second episode is up. Here are all the links:

KnotCast Podcast URL (feed to iTunes or another feed reader)
Episode 2 - Emailageddon (direct link; AAC; 11.5 MB)

Now comes in MP3

Due to popular demand (okay, one person E-mailed us about it and we thought it would be a good idea), KnotCast is now offered in MP3 form. I'll try to get both versions published simultaneously, but there may be a delay. Frankly, the AAC version is more interesting to me, since it provides such higher quality for the file size as well as all of the "Enhanced Podcast" features like chapters, album art, and embedded links. As a result, the AAC will likely be published first, but an MP3 version should follow shortly thereafter. It just requires a bit more manual tweaking. So without further delay, the first episode of KnotCast in MP3 form:

Episode 1 - Let There Be Knots (direct link; MP3, 26.7 MB)

For real, this time!

Okay. The first episode should be live for real now. Again, here are the links:

KnotCast Podcast URL (feed to iTunes or another feed reader)
Episode 1 - Let There Be Knots (direct link; AAC, 14.5 MB)

I'm working on making a version in MP3 for people who either don't like AAC or can't play it. The problem is that the MP3 version either is a lot larger or sounds terrible. We're looking into our options and we'll figure something out. If any of you have suggestions, please E-mail us at KnotCast@FoxStuffers.com.

As a side note, I think it's pretty cool that Fuzz had a random idea, and we made it a reality in almost exactly one month.

First episode is live!

Just finished pushing the first episode to the server. Everyone, feel free to subscribe with this URL:

http://www.foxstuffers.com/KnotCast.xml

In iTunes, go to the Advanced menu, and pick "Subscribe to Podcast...", then enter that link. For other software, you should be able to find directions on how to add the feed at the developer's site.

Next time, we'll try to get a stream of some kind going for people in the IRC channel.

Edit: Looks like we're having some server problems. Trying to get them resolved. You can subscribe to the podcast, but the server doesn't seem to be sending it. I'll let everybody know here when it's resolved.
